After 50 years and more than 7,000 events, Mellon Arena (originally Pittsburgh Civic Arena) enters the homestretch of its Final Season.  Opened on September 19, 1961 with the Ice Capades, and closing sometime late in the Summer of 2010 with a to-be-determined event, the oldest Arena in all of major league sports has hosted a multitude of concerts, family shows, sporting events, conventions and sports franchises, including the 3-time and defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
 
The 18,500-seat Consol Energy Center will open to the public this September and will be the new home of the Penguins.  It will also continue to provide a continued home to a wide array of entertainment and activities that Pittsburgh and the region have been accustomed to these past five decades.

To celebrate the vast and eclectic group of events that have taken place in “The Igloo”, we invite you to explore our Final Season information.  The ‘FINAL SEASON” tab provides a direct link to all chronicled events in the 50-year history as well as an alphabetical listing of concerts, family shows and sports franchises that have called the Arena home since 1961. Additionally, you can sign a virtual guestbook and upload your memories, photos, facsimiles of ticket stubs, program covers, clippings and backstage passes on the site as well.  All uploaded contributions will be properly credited.

We’re looking to get feedback from you fans to give us something special. We encourage you to make this more than just a list – we want photos, memories, and insights from all of you who have enjoyed coming to this building the past 50 years.  If we’re missing something, let us know and help us to fill in whatever gaps we might have missed.
